    • Can collect data online – how many people viewed, or responded to the ad
    • Have the ability to target narrow markets and customize ads

    • People may get used to ignoring pages with ads – but some studies show that we still see the ads subconsciously (banner blindness) – Do you think that you are blind to advertisements?
      • Mere-exposure effect – people tend to develop a preference for things merely because they are familiar with them.
      • What kind of advertisements attract your attention?
    • Ad-blocking
    • Anti-targeting technologies
      • Users can hide information about themselves from advertisers looking at their search history and tracking their headers
    • Click fraud – pages pop up and cost money to view (but the consumer isn’t aware of the cost)

Cyber Bullying – Hannah

Having access and the use of social media sites can be a very positive thing for our society. But it does have negative consequences as well, especially on children today. Written by Snakenborg, Van Acker and Gable that talked about Cyber bullying: Prevention and Intervention to Protect our Children and Youth. Cyber bullying is defined as the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of intimidating or threatening nature. Cyber bullying has some pretty scary statistics according to this youtube video put out by My Secure Cyberspace.


  • Do you have any thoughts or reactions after seeing these statistics? Did you realize how big the problem actually is?
  • Now the question then becomes: how do we move forward from here?
  • Snakenborg, Van Acker and Gable talk about Prevention and intervention programs across the country are being implemented in school’s across the nation to try and help stop this growing problem. Children are also being taught how to learns sign they might be targets of cyberbullying. Many states also have written legislation to help address and prohibit cyberbullying as well.

Are people actually using it as a currency or as a short term pump and dump investment? So here’s a video made by PayPal that talks about how it works but mostly it’s just hilariously cringeworthy.
